Roberta (Gleason) Hove

Roberta (Gleason) Hove, 99, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Calvin Community in Des Moines.

She was born June 2, 1918, in Crocker, Missouri, to Ross and Caroline (Borchardt) Gleason.

Roberta grew up on a farm in the foothills of the Ozarks with her parents and four brothers. She attended school in Crocker and graduated from Crocker High School. She then moved to St. Louis, Missouri to attend business school. Upon graduating she moved to Des Moines, Iowa and worked in many jobs connected with the war effort. Friends introduced her to Anders Hove, and on Sept. 19, 1942 Roberta and Anders were married in Omaha, Nebraska. They were married for 52 years and raised two children, Carolyn and Robert.

After the children went to middle school, Roberta returned to work and was employed by Hawkeye Security Insurance.  Once Anders and Roberta retired, they moved to Mesa, Arizona and built a home. They enjoyed many years together until Anders’ death, and in 2006 Roberta moved back to Des Moines. She loved her family and cherished making a loving home. Cooking and gardening always brought her great joy, and as her family and friends can testify, she was exceptionally good at both.

Roberta is survived by her children Carolyn (Richard) Hutton of Urbandale, Iowa; Bob (Sue) Hove of Livingston; four grandchildren Stephanie (Paul) Skramstad, Hans (Colleen) Hutton, Scott (Tracy) Hove, and Kate (Brian) Keenan; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Anders; and her four brothers Bob, Sam, Paul, and Ted Gleason.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1115 Grand Ave, West Des Moines at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug.  11. In lieu of flowers the family would suggest a memorial to either the St. Mark Memorial Garden or the Park County Community Foundation in Livingston.
