Graveside committal and burial will follow the service at Park View Memorial Gardens in Paradise Valley. A reception will follow the graveside service at American Lutheran Church.
Alice was born on Feb. 28, 1925, in Laurel. She was the daughter of Albert Herman and Emma Belle (Rutter) Brickman. She received her education in Laurel and was a graduate of the Laurel High School Class of 1943.
On July 17, 1943, Alice was united in marriage to Calvin Barthuly at the American Lutheran Church in Billings. This marriage was blessed with four children — Beverly, Kathy, Carlene and Calvin “Jay.”
Alice resided in Cardwell, Montana, with her brother Raymond for two and a half years while Calvin was in the military. The couple then moved to Livingston, where Calvin was employed by the Northern Pacific Railroad.
As they began their lives together, Alice cared for the children and kept the home. Once the kids were in school, she began a career as a nurse’s aide working at the Pioneer Rest Home and the Memorial Hospital.
She retired in the early ’60s to the role she served so well —homemaker and grandma. Alice and Calvin shared 50 years of marriage prior to Calvin’s passing on Feb. 7, 1994.
Alice was a member of American Lutheran Church in Livingston, where she spent much time volunteering and dedicating her time and talents to the church. Alice loved crocheting and knitting and enjoyed cooking and gardening, and was a very talented crafter. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
Blessed be her memory.
Alice is survived by her children, daughter Beverly Alt and her husband, Lee, of Beaver Dam, Arizona, daughter Kathy Mayer and her husband, Harvey, of Livingston, daughter Carlene Horsley of Alliance, Nebraska, and son Calvin “Jay” Barthuly and his wife, Joanne, of Livingston; 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother Kenny Brickman of Oregon; and nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; siblings Erma, Alta, Ray, Roy, Charles, Vern, Albert, Fred and Ruth; and son-in-law Jack Horsley.
