Jim Burke was small for a nose tackle.
A senior at Park County High School in 1947, Burke stood 5’9” and weighed 165 pounds soaking wet and wearing boots. But that year, he was a starting lineman on the Rangers football team.
Burke played football for head coach Frank Little, who had led teams to state titles in Dillon and Glendive. The hard-bark skipper had a winning reputation and, after just his second season, Little would bring the first outright state football title to Livingston since 1909.
